About

Over four years ago, I read “Touching the Void” and I was always intrigued by situation hikers find themselves in and the incredible things they do to stay alive.

This blog is about learning from other people’s mistakes, so you don’t make the same ones.

“Better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat”

Young Women Thank Cell Phone for Rescue

Photobucket
Who: Two young women
Where: St. Francois State Park, Missouri
Their mistake: They just got lost
What happened: Two young women were hiking in the woods in St. Francois State Park and somehow became lost. They started the hike at 3 p.m. and were unable to find their way back to the car by sundown – and they didn’t have a flashlight.

The women used a cell phone to call for help. Sheriffs responded and searched for three hours before dispatchers were able to pinpoint their location using the GPS signal from their phone. They were found at 8 p.m. and escorted to safety.
