Who: 64-year-old Richard Barrie of Kittery, Maine
Where: Mount Moosilauke, New Hampshire
His mistake: He went alone, but he did a lot of things right
What happened: A man who went hiking alone on Mount Moosilauke became stranded on the mountain while high winds and frigid temperatures hovered overhead. It is unclear how the man became delayed.
Authorities were alerted and joined the man’s friends for an overnight search. In the meantime, the man dug a snowcave and hunkered down for the night. The next morning, friends and authorities continued the search, but the man safely headed down the mountain. He was unharmed. Authorities said the man packed appropriate gear and had outdoor skills to survive. Authorities also credit the man for leaving a detailed itinerary with friends, which helped search efforts.

A couple buddies and I did Moosilauke last July. I would have been downright comfy to spend the night then. The story doesn’t say what trail. I cannot imagine Beaver Brook in the winter. It’s hazardous enough in summer.
Huzzah! H.H. is back!!
We stayed out the same night at beaver brook (2miles from mt. moosilauke summit). It was a nice clear night with no wind.
